Business owners: give and you shall receive

Last week Ideas Shop co-hosted a networking evening with Sustainable Business Network (SBN) at our office.

It was an informal evening with two guest speakers: James King from the Office for the Community and Voluntary Sector and Elliot Strange, Chair of the Generosity Hub and Managing Director of Signify. The speakers talked about how the recent tax changes have made it easier for business owners and their employees to give. James and Elliot talked about:

  • What the recent tax changes are and how they affect your business
  • The introduction of payroll giving
  • Some of the tools SMEs can use to make giving easier, and
  • What giving means for the bottom line.

The wine was glorious – biodynamic, organic Milton, the finger food tasty, the company great and the topic dear to Ideas Shop’s core values – a winning combination. The event was about leveraging what already generous Kiwis do and about how we can now give smarter. If you are interested in more information on the tax changes or payroll giving visit payrollgivinginfo.org.nz.

Welcome back Mark!

Partner Mark Russell has returned from a 16-day visit to New York with a group from South Wellington Seido Karate.

In the Big Apple the group trained under Seido founder and Grand Master Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura, training up to five hours a day during a heat wave that saw temperatures top 37 degrees.

The visit culminated in the annual three day Gasshuku (retreat) in upstate New York, attended by about 150 Seido students from New Zealand, Poland, Germany, India, Australia, Japan and throughout the United States.
