Five ways to give without spending money
Having been volunteered by one of colleagues to response to a tweet conversation on "five ways to give without spending money", here goes:
One: Volunteer to collect for a street or door-to-door fundraising campaign - for most organisations the amount that they are able to raise is proportional to the number of collectors they have… so by giving your time you are making a potentially far greater contribution.
Two: Share those garden seedlings/cuttings – plants are expensive to buy so rather than just pulling out all those extra parsley, coriander and mint plants why not pot them up and share them with friends and colleagues?
Three: One person's junk is another’s treasure. We all do periodic spring cleans and in the gusto of achieving the final result we throw out a lot of useful stuff. Rather than binning stuff you don't want, donate it to the local school or church white elephant sale or put it on freecycle.
Four: Join the organising committee or board of an organisation. One of the hardest things for many organisations is to attract active board or committee members to assist with the ongoing running of the organisation. We all have skills that are essential to the running of any organisation whether they be accounting, marketing, fundraising, administration or any one of the myriad skills they need.
Five: Placing product. You might be sick of buying yet more chocolate bars for this fundraiser or that, how about just agreeing to put the fundraiser in your office and monitoring the sales?
Also, don’t forget, that cash is king! Taking advantage of some of the really easy ways to make regular ongoing commitments to charities is a vital way to support their work. Have you considered payroll giving?
